Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park (Nevada)

July 17, 2014

My grandfather loved this park. He visited it often, even planted apple trees in one of the valleys here many years ago. He came here with Betty, I can just imagine them on cute little picnics together.
The park consists of a well preserved mining ghost town (Berlin) and a fossil site with nine Ichthyosaurs that were discovered here.

Nevada hardly receives any rain at all, but it decided to monsoon while we were here. We arrived and the rangers were fixing a road that had been washed out from all the rain. Which meant that we got to hike everywhere (my parents probably weren't as excited about that as us kiddos were).
