Phebe Davis | Mississippi Musicians

I met Phebe a year ago in a café. I was new to Columbus and with a friend, who introduced me to her. Somehow, we got on the subject of naps and how she had taken a nap in a lettuce field one day. I knew we would be friends at that point. She's got one of the most beautiful voices that I have ever heard. We talked about doing a cover + video for the song Gasoline, so be sure to check it out at the bottom. I'll also link her YouTube channel so you can see some of her original songs.

Tell me about the time you first picked up a guitar and decided this is what you wanted to do.

I begged for a guitar and my parents bought me one when I was 14. HOWEVER it was pink and I hated pink so I never played the thing. When I was 15 I was bored and thought "I'm going to teach myself how to play." I fell in love and butchered the thing for about two hours every day. About six months later I went to a thrift store and found my beautiful fender for $25 and have t stopped playing since. I've played violin since I was 3 so I've always been able to read music and play, however, I love guitar because I can also sing and the whole experience is more authentic and emotionally raw for me.

Is song writing something that comes easy to you?

I write a lot, however, very little of it I consider good enough to play for my family and friends.

What are your hobbies?

I love to explore new things and travel. I also play violin and piano. When I was less busy I sketched and played a lot of video games. I love kayaking, skiing, rock climbing, and cliff jumping.

What are you passionate about?

I want to work with women and children who have been abused and are in the foster care system. I want to help people who feel worthless and unloved realize their potential and that Jesus loves them.

What's one big adventure that you would like to go on one day in life?

I would love to backpack across South America

If you were in New Orleans for a weekend, what would you find yourself doing?

Exploring abandoned buildings.

Do you listen to your own music and sing along in the car?

Sometimes, not usually.

How has Mississippi influenced you as an artist?

I've learned to become independent.

What's your favorite thing about Mississippi?

I love the people.

I hope you guys enjoyed getting to know Phebe this lovely Friday morning. Feel free to follow Phebe on Instagram & check out her Youtube channel.
